William Blake (1757-1827) is recognized for his poetry, engraving, painting, and printmaking. Afflicted with poverty and anonymity, Blake reveals his empathy with Job by means of his pictorial engagements with the Book of Job multiple times throughout his life. Illustrations of the Book of Job, noted as his greatest masterpieces, consists of a series of twenty-two engravings and complemented by two sets of watercolors to illustrate various scenes from the Book of Job. Job and His Family Restored to Prosperity was from his first set of watercolors, produced for his patron, Thomas Butts, around 1805. The chords that the daughters hold in their hands have been interpreted to signify healing and spiritual gifts. This final painting of the set emphasizes that JobÔÇÖs faith in God prevails.
