The Old Testament readings in the Revised Common Lectionary (1992) were not deployed to anticipate or complement the gospel readings of the day. Instead, they offer a comprehensive understanding of the Hebrew scriptures as the background to the story of GodÔÇÖs mercy incarnated in Jesus Christ. The complementary nature of the Old and New Testament are highlighted by Vanderbilt LibraryÔÇÖs two databases, the Revised Common Lectionary and Art of the Christian Tradition.

This section of the exhibit introduces the addition to the databases of hundreds of visual art images contributed by the internationally celebrated Hebrew Bible scholar, Professor Choon-Leong Seow of the Vanderbilt Divinity School. The exhibit entries highlight his visual biblical interpretations of the Book of Job, a work that Victor Hugo called ÔÇ£the greatest masterpiece of the human mind.ÔÇØ Although the featured images in the exhibit are undoubtedly insufficient to convey the breadth of Professor SeowÔÇÖs scholarship on Job, these images enlighten traditional biblical exegesis with aesthetic values from various cultures worldwide.
