Unique Collections

The Art in Christian Tradition is the repository for the art images that are linked from the Revised Common Lectionary website. Designed for scholars, students, pastors, and religious educators, all of the images may be used for non-commercial purposes, with attribution. The ACT is linked to the Revised Common Lectionary, so that images appropriate for each Sunday or Special Day are easily located. This linking allows leaders of worship and teachers to quickly find visual art resources related to the scripture readings for each Sunday in the church calendar. From this resource, scripture and art slideshows have been created, ready for download. See: Slideshow

There are several unique groups of art images in the Art in the Christian Tradition database, the use of which has generously been donated to the Vanderbilt Divinity Library by the artist. Materials from the University Special Collections have also been scanned and added, opening the beauty of this art to the world. Together these images offer opportunities for churches to freely adapt the gift of scriptural art to their own worship, education, and reflective needs.
